Dear Merit Badge Counselor:
Thank you! for your willingness to serve youth in the Washington Crossing Council as a Merit Badge Counselor.
There is more to merit badges than simply providing opportunities to learn skills. There is more to them than an introduction to lifetime hobbies, or the inspiration to pursue a career—though these invaluable results occur regularly. It all begins with a Scout’s initial interest and effort in a merit badge subject, followed by a discussion with a unit leader, continues through meetings with a counselor, and culminates in advancement and recognition. It is an uncomplicated process that gives a Scout the confidence achieved through overcoming obstacles. Social skills improve. Self-reliance develops. Examples are set and followed. And fields of study and interest are explored beyond the limits of the school classroom. All this occurs because of the desire by a Scout to earn a merit badge through his association with you.
In order to maintain an accurate Merit Badge Counselor listing, the Washington Crossing Council is required to reach out to our Merit Badge Counselors on an annual basis and ask them to renew their registration for the upcoming year.
This requires a simple action on your part. Please REPLY by August 29th via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include your name and any changes to your contact information (email address, phone number) so our records can be updated. You can also call the Council Service Center at 215-348-7205 x306. If no reply is received, your name will be removed from the listing.
New this year – once registration renewals are processed they will be uploaded to Scoutbook accounts.
Please do not forget, all registered Scout leaders are required to be current with Youth Protection Training (it is valid for two years). Your renewal cannot be processed until YPT is current.
All PA MBCs are required to be current with the state mandated clearances. If clearances are out of date, your renewal cannot be processed until they are current.
In keeping with the Council’s Training Policy, all Direct Contact Leaders (which include Merit Badge Counselors) must have completed the MBC Specific Training to renew their registration. If you have not taken this course yet, it may be offered at District Roundtables in the fall, or it can be taken through your my.scouting account.
During the renewal process (in early September), you will be notified if we are missing any YPT or MBC training dates, or clearance information. Your registration will be processed once all paperwork is in compliance.

Attached below, you will find a copy of the Merit Badge Counselor Information sheet. You only need to submit this form if you are willing to counsel additional Merit Badges than you have in the past or wish to eliminate some you have previously counseled.
